HOUSE WOOD

House Wood was designed for a small plot in Schonenburg estate in Somerset West, Cape Town. A nearby road required the privacy afforded by a small courtyard that the architect designed as the central feature of the design. The house has a double volume stairwell with a balcony feature.

CAPE VERNACULAR STYLE

The Cape Vernacular style is a relaxed country style architecture that features steep metal roofs with clipped eaves. The houses can be painted in any soft colour whereas the Cape Dutch houses are generally only white. The architect kept to vertical windows.
